Revision of the Age Limit for Dependents Applying for Dual Citizenship

The Department of Immigration & Emigration of Sri Lanka has informed that the age limit currently specified for unmarried children applying for dual citizenship as dependents of a principal applicant will be revised with effect from 01.10.2026.

New Age Limit:

Only children under the age of 21 years will be included as dependents in an application for dual citizenship with effect from 01.10.2026. No individual who has reached or exceeded the age of 21 years will be eligible to be included as dependent.

Applicants aged 21 years or above must select an eligible category and submit a separate application as a Main Applicant.

Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath to lead Sri Lanka delegation to 81st Session of the UN General Assembly

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Vijitha Herath will lead the Sri Lanka delegation to the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) from 27 to 30 September 2026.

Foreign Minister Herath is scheduled to deliver Sri Lanka’s National Statement at the General Debate during the High Level Week on 28 September 2026 aligning with this year’s UNGA theme ‘Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All.’

On the margins of the General Assembly, the Foreign Minister will have meetings with the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, senior officials of the UN, and Foreign Ministers of several countries.
